On Monday, the Imo State Government refuted rumors circulating that the Federal Government had set up an Internally Displaced Persons camp in the state’s Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.
Declan Emelumba, the commissioner for information, public orientation, and strategy, revealed this in Owerri and clarified that the building at NSU was a training facility for skill development programs intended for South East Nigerians, not Nigerians from other regions of the nation.
Emelumba expressed sorrow that “enemies of Nigeria decided to distort harmless information from the National Refugees Commission to pit Igbos against other parts of the country.”
This disinformation is being spread by a well-known propagandist who has a history of using his infamous ‘hate speech gospel ministry’ to spread seditious materials and incite unrest across the country.” He claimed that the goal of the most recent mischief was to turn the Ndigbo against the Northerners in order to render the nation unruly for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The commissioner questioned why the propagandist, who had called for Ndi Imo to rise up against other Nigerians in a widely shared video, had not been detained by the security services. This man has a known history of making hateful remarks about Northerners based on a glaring lack of knowledge about current events and public politics. In order to agitate Ndigbo against other Nigerians, he purposefully misrepresented the Refugees Commission’s report.
The Ehime Mbano training center was the South East’s slot, as other geo-political zones received their slots and would train their people accordingly,” stated Emelumba.
“It was never considered that refugees from the North or the West would be brought to Imo State for training.”
He encouraged the residents of Okigwe Zone, Imo State, and Ehime Mbano to disregard the bogus news because it is the creation of the government’s opponents.
